The Louisiana Hayride radio show was second only to the Grand Ole Opry in terms of popularity and significance in the annuals of country music history. The show was broadcast on KWKH, a 50,000-watt station in Shreveport, Louisiana. The cast of the Hayride included artists that not only became revered figures in country music, but also became legends far beyond those confines. Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Johnny cash, George Jones and Kitty Wells were among those who graced the stage at the Hayride. Scena Records is proud to launch a series of live recordings from those historic radio programs, starting with the releases from Johnny Cash and June Carter. Look for more Hayride releases in 2004. |

JUNE CARTER
suggested retail price $16.98 June Carter is famous for not only being a member of country music's most important family, but also for having been married to Johnny to Johnny Cash. True devotees of country entertainment know that she deserved acclaim beyond her family associations. She was a dynamic live performer that was equally adept with musical and comedic material. She was a trained actress who credits ranged from television appearances on Gunsmoke and Jim Bowie to her celebrated role in the 1998 film, The Apostle. She was a great songwriter, penning classics such as "Ring Of Fire" and "Jackson". She undoubtedly considered her greatest role as that of matriarch to her family and devoted wife to Johnny Cash. The world lost a great woman on May 16 2003, and it is with deep respect that Scena offers this collection of her 1060-1962 recordings from the Louisiana Hayride that shows her talent as a singer and comedienne. |
